I converted a new 102" stainless steel whip antenna to do duty as a base rig antenna by attaching three leads of 14-2 romex copper wire stripped clean. Connecting the to the shielded base of the antenna in a downward angle following the roof line. With this ground plane on the 102" I achieved an acceptable 1.6 swr with only 3 reflectors.
